Replacing the missing teeth in your smile is very important for your health and for cosmetic reasons. Missing teeth give bacteria and plaque extra places to accumulate which can result in gum disease, cavities and tooth loss. Your remaining teeth have room to drift out of alignment, which can ultimately cause damage to your tooth enamel. Without a full set of teeth, you may not speak, bite or chew as effectively as possible. And of course, if you have gaps in your smile, you will feel self-conscious and may appear older than your true age.

Dentures can often be made in a day, and are easy to clean because you can remove them. While they are an effective solution for missing teeth, it does take some time to get used to wearing them. Don’t be surprised if they feel awkward at first, and if they slip a bit. Your mouth may produce extra saliva for a while, but that will pass in time. If your dentures do not fit well, or if you feel persistent pain or pressure, you should make an appointment to see your dentist to have them adjusted.

You may find it a little challenging to eat with your new dentures. It may help to cut your food into smaller pieces for a while, and you can cut tougher foods into long strips and chew it on both sides of your mouth. If you have difficulty pronouncing some words, you may need to practice speaking them, or speak them slowly until you are accustomed to your dentures.

If you are living with missing teeth, you should make time to visit with our dentist, Dr. Mohamed Waheed for an exam and a consultation.
