Protect your smile by avoiding oral health hazards–including objects that seek to damage your smile, food and drinks destined to wear away tooth enamel, and bad habits that can seriously alter your oral health. The more you do to protect your smile the greater the likelihood you will have optimum oral health care success with a bright and healthy smile that lasts a lifetime.

One of the most important functions you can provide for your smile is the avoidance of sugar. Sugar can be converted into harmful acids within your mouth, capable of causing dental erosion. By limiting your sugar intake you drastically reduce your risk of tooth decay and cavities. Other common foods and drinks that should be limited include chewy and sticky foods that can linger in your mouth for an extended period of time, and hard foods, which can crack and fracture teeth.

Other common oral health hazards include contact sports and similar high-risk activities in which safety gear should be worn. Harmful habits such as smoking and recreational drug use should be avoided, as should wearing mouth jewelry, which can easily cause oral accidents or infections.

Make sure to take good care of your teeth so they can potentially last a lifetime.
